Cookie & Local Storage Policy
How Katamusikku uses cookies and local device storage, and your choices.
1. What Are Cookies & Local Storage?
Cookies and browser local storage are small text files and key-value entries stored on your device when you browse websites. They enable the site to remember your preferences, keep you securely authenticated, and measure aggregate readership.
2. Categories of Storage We Use
Katamusikku operates with a privacy-first approach. We categorize client storage into transparent groups:
• Strictly Necessary Storage: Essential for the operation of the site. Includes session tokens (`authjs.session-token`), anti-CSRF tokens, your theme preference (`katamusikku_theme`: dark/light), and your consent decision flag (`katamusikku_consent`). They contain no personally identifiable profiling data.
• Functional & Community State: To deliver interactive features such as the Reader Verdict reactions, we store a local flag of reviews you have reacted to (`katamusikku_reactions`). This prevents duplicate voting prompts and improves your immediate interface responsiveness.
• Optional Analytics: With your explicit consent, we set lightweight, privacy-focused cookies to measure aggregate page visits, bounce rates, and referring sources. We do not use cross-site tracking cookies.
• Third-Party Embedded Media: Our reviews and stories may include embedded music players from Spotify, YouTube, or SoundCloud. These third-party platforms may place their own cookies when you interact with the player. Where available, we embed players using enhanced privacy modes.
3. Storage Lifespans
Session cookies expire immediately upon closing your browser window. Persistent preferences (such as dark mode theme and consent choices) are stored in your browser's localStorage for up to 365 days unless cleared manually.
4. Managing Your Cookie Choices
When you first visit Katamusikku, an interactive Consent Manager banner allows you to accept or decline optional analytics cookies. You can change your mind or revoke consent at any time by clearing your browser cookies or resetting your site preferences in your browser settings.
Most modern browsers allow you to reject all cookies, delete existing cookies, or receive a warning before a cookie is stored. If you disable strictly necessary cookies, certain essential features (like theme persistence) may not function as intended.
